Macbook Pro against the competition

Here’s my two cents about the annoying things that bug a tech enthusiast like myself.

Macbook Pro. What is this thing? It’s a product of Steve Job’s amazing public speaking, product introduction and verbal persuasion. The new Macbook Pro for 2011 rolled out earlier this year and it wowed everyone. Why? Because they made a HUGE announcement and it was felt worldwide. Suddenly, everyone thought it was the next best thing to sliced bread. All I have to say is….Get you head out of your ass.

Macbook Pro is only really good because of little things that make it the only suitable product of interest. Now most of you are thinking, what does he mean by that? Well here it is.

Macbook Pro has the Multi-Touch Capacitative Trackpad, the lush pure aluminium Unibody construction and the Mac OS X only software.

Now what does that mean? Well it means, you can only use the Mac OS X (don’t really know what the X stands for) can only be applied to the Apple related hardware. That means you can’t use great programs such as Logic Pro, Final Cut Pro, iMovie, Garageband, and etc. on any other computer. Screw you, Apple, but its a gosh-darn smart strategy to bind your customers to Apple without them really knowing it.

Staying with my topic, the Macbook Pro, I’ve realized that it’s a very BACKWARDS product. Its nothing NEW, besides the multi-touch trackpad. Compare this to the Dell XPS Laptop.

Now the Macbook Pro introduced new processors from Intel reaching a possibility of using Quad Core processors as well as 16 GB DDR3 Memory cards. That’s a big step for the Apple followers. However, none of this is new. It’s been done before on MANY laptops before that. The quad-core processors have been introduced into a laptop way before Macbook Pro with the Alienware Laptops (now conveniently owned by Dell) and the 16GB memory cards have been used by many others. Dell is even putting Blu-ray writing capabilities onto their laptops, up to 16GB of memory, 3D graphics (Yes, 3D), and True-HD. Yes, it comes with a default 1080p capable screen. WHAT THE HELL, APPLE!

So, when it really comes down to it. Which will you pick? Apple-Loyal or adventurous techie?

Why watching anime is good for you.

Sometimes people frown upon those who watch the sharply drawn characters that spew out words that are constantly dubbed or subtitled by english translations. The reason is simple.

Ever since I was a kid, I have always been fascinated by the powerful visuals of anime and why american cartoons could never compare to this level of ‘eye-gasm’. As an adult, I still watch anime such as Gundam and Naruto Shippuden.

Now the first thought in most people’s minds are “DAMN THAT KID IS SUCH A DORK”. This is true for probably 99% of the all the anime cartoons that are out there because they probably lead to unnecessary amounts of adult situations that leave your crotch needing more room in your pants (if you’re wearing them, of course).

However, for the 1% of the anime out there, they reach a point where they cater to those who want something visually pleasing and something that they can think about after wards such as a greater human truth.

An example of this was Gundam 00.

Now most of you are familiar with the ‘hack-n-slash’ giant robot genre that has plagued our nerdy youth (including me) for the past 30 years. However, every series (with the exception of some) have always reached a greater truth for all of us to think about in the present and in the future and how our decisions could reverberate to unnecessary outcomes for the generations afters us.

When the series came out in 2008, it was regarded as a series that was ground-breaking because of the artwork, this gave way for people to accept this as a TV show. However, this also gave it a huge audience for the creators (and the founder of Gundam, Yoshiyuki Tomino) a platform to realize greater human truths such as peace and understanding.

These shows have been a great tool for expanding the perception of those who are oblivious to their actions and the repercussions of them.

I can’t really say to much about this besides the fact that it is a great show and that everyone should watch it whether they are boys, girls, men, women, grandmothers or grandfathers. This is something that is universal and something that everyone should takeaway from.

Here’s a little bit about me. I’m taking ALL marketing courses this semester and I’m getting in the zone of studying for exams. Guess what happens?

I get a marketing fart.

Here’s how it went own. I was at Dunkin’ Donuts on Babcock St. and I was thinking about how that particular franchise (or licence) actually operates to enhance customer experience.

Promotional signage:

Used by the company to signal seasonal products/deals in order to reinforce customers to come back for a return visit when other products/deals come up.

Large Pepsi Freezer

To give customers choice within the umbrella of products covered by the Pepsi Corporation. Also serves as a convenience buy.

Staff

Informative, friendly and speedy (probably the most important aspect of them all).

Dunkin’ Reward Cards

This is used to start/continue a line of customer loyalty programs to enhance out-of-store customer experience. This probably leads to product/brand evangelism after customers receive their rewards. The cards are also used like a debit card to ease the purchase process (eve n though its easy enough to get a Large Hazlenut Coffee with a debit card).

To instill the idea that Dunkin’ reinforces the fact that they know people are BUSY. This is the coffee for people who are busy and have no time to sit down and talk to their friends in the establishment. However, they do counter this small tables. This tells the customer that they don’t want to kick the customers out completely after they have purchased their order.

Heineken interactive mirror installation in Milan. A really cool experiential campaign by the beer company that allows party goers to create light art with their bodies. Some movements will generate the Heineken star on the mirror. Such a great way for a brand to interact with target audience! I wonder what will happen if this was placed in a frat party…

Great video work and technique. Truly shows how Heineken can be more than just a product experience but a customer experience also.

Is this a make or break situation?

Who really knows? The problem here shown in this article is that big publishers and their respective authors are being low-blown by the small independent authors. I’m not saying that this is a bad thing but it could end up pretty bad for big companies.

We have all lived in the century where internet search for everything was a small and hopeful dream that we could never really realize. Look now! With everything coming in from a single click to the “Search” button on Google, we are able to access so much data and information.

It seems that the 2010s paved the way for small startups to take advantage of the technology that they have such as social media. Nowadays, you can read the news that you WANT to read and not the “Man” tells you to read.

However, the only problem here is that everyone seems to be fighting on their own for a bigger slice of the market share. Smart or foolish? Without big corporations such as Penguin Publishing, great authors would have never been seen by the world. Can living without big corporations be a good thing or a bad thing?

DISCLAIMER: Verbal Diarrhea. Its my morning ritual when I string words together because they just make sense to me.

Today I woke up to the sun burning through my window cooking my brain to a sizzling temperature. It was a strange feeling that I haven’t had in a long time because today I woke up without hesitation at a startling 9am.

How convenient.

After my string of 3pm wake ups, I felt compelled to be a little bit more productive today. I want to be able to do things today because its a good day. Someone strap a camera on me! Hand me a book! Give me a sketchpad! Something!

This reminds me of a goal I want in my life that I feel like sharing with the wonderful single-digit number of people who are reading this.

I don’t want to ever stop learning. I want to be able to know what makes something happen and the reason/motivation for doing so. I don’t want to look back at a wasted time. This doesn’t include school because you are always subjected to things that you HAVE TO enjoy.

Here’s a goal for today (and maybe for you if you’re reading this)

Go out and do something to make you feel more satisfied about yourself whether it may be going out there to make a video or sitting in the dining hall with your friends. Its up to you.

So I’ve been a little inactive for a little while because my lack of motivation to pour my heart and soul into this.

Sometimes, your laziness really gets to you. Hell, it gets to me. It’s something I’ve been living with for the longest time.

I’ve been doing a lot of thinking…

There’s a lot to do here in school but my priorities have always been on what I want to do for myself and what I want for the clubs that I’m in. I’ve realized that its hard to shift my views on what’s important and what’s not.

Here’s an example for you; a thought experiment if you would. Think about what you want to do and what you want to accomplish in life/school/work/everything else.

What do you really want to do? What makes you happy? If anything. I truly believe that making videos makes me happy. It makes me do what I love. Who knows? Maybe I will do it in the future.

But think about it.
